Bill Iannicelli inspired scores of athletes during his service at F&M, which began in 1955 when he became the head varsity track coach. In 1968, after 19 years as assistant football coach, he became the men's head cross-country coach (F&M didn't go coed until 1969). In his 21 years as head cross country coach, he compiled a 217-54 record, with two Middle Atlantic Conference titles, and coached five All-American athletes.
In his 35 years as head track coach, his record was 271-94, with three Middle Atlantic Conference titles, had five All-American athletes and a streak of 88 consecutive dual-meet victories.
Iannicelli retired from F&M in 1989 as its longest serving athletic coach. He was a charter member of the F&M Athletic Hall of Fame in 1969.
He was a standout athlete at Altoona High School and at F&M. As a sophomore, he won the javelin title at the 1944 Penn Relays. As a senior at F&M, he was named First Team All-State, All-East and Little All-American in football. He won MAC titles in the javelin and long jump, again won the javelin at the Penn Relays, and was All-American in javelin by placing second in the NCAA Championship Meet.
After graduating from F&M in 1948, he went to the 1948 Olympic Trials where he placed sixth in the javelin.
