With only one graduating senior and 10 of 12 players returning, Conestoga Valley golfers are "anticipating an exciting season" after their solid 25-5 showing last year, says fourth-year coach Brandon Hershey.

"I think we should be pretty dominant this year," says Figart. "Manheim Central (which finished above CV a year ago) I think lost a ton of seniors last year that were all starters."

"I think a good goal for our team is to place top three at leagues and have an average team score in matches of 315," says Landis. His individual goal is 79. His best round was 74.

The 315 is an aggressive goal, but Hershey says he expects senior twin brothers Thomas and Andrew Kowalinski to be in the mid- to upper-70s, while 10 of 12 players at tryouts shot mid-80s in at least one round. Thomas won the Lancaster County Junior Tour.

Figart, who started the last three matches last year, is aiming for the mid- to low-80s and maybe break 80. Schaub aims for the low 80s.

The depth of the team likely will provide four consistent starters but another five or six vying for spots. "That keeps everybody competitive," says Hershey.

Schaub also plays both baseball and basketball; for Figart it's just baseball. Schaub is planning to play baseball in college. They agree on the benefits from the other games.

"Baseball is definitely another huge mental sport," says Figart, "because you can have runs of just bad, just constant bad, and like nothing good. But I really think that builds the strength in my mind to just keep going because at some point you're going to break through."
