Chayla Fox, Ephrata Mennonite School (girls basketball)
What’s your basketball origin story and what’s the journey been like since then?
Fox: “I just grew up with an athletic family. I’ve always been playing sports. In middle school I tried basketball. I liked it.”
Do you play any other sports and how does that translate to basketball?
Fox: “Volleyball is my main sport. I guess there’s a lot of jumping in both. But being in shape for volleyball is different than being in shape for basketball. Volleyball is a lot of jumping. Basketball is more running.”
Is there a favorite player you look up to?
Fox: “Caitlin Clark.”
What are the strengths of this year’s team?
Fox: “We’re very fast. We’ll have a fast offense. Uptempo. Looking forward to that.”
Anything you’ve improved upon with your game?
Fox: “Last year I struggled with making quick decisions. My dad is a coach so he has helped me with that.”
Time for some fun questions. What did you learn in school this week?
Fox: “In psychology class we learned about sleeping and dreams.”
Do you have any hobbies outside of sports?
Fox: “I like to sketch things like flowers and things in nature.”
What’s your favorite musical artist or band?
Fox: “Riders. They’re a newer Christian band.”
What was your favorite childhood toy?
Fox: “I had a camera where you could take pictures of people and put funny effects on them.”
What’s your favorite piece of scripture or person in the Bible?
Fox: “I like the be strong and courageous verse (Joshua 1:9). Also run hard, finish the race well (2 Timothy 4:7). As far as a person probably Esther.”
