Nolan Wagner: Playing Basketball Came from Watching His Brother

Tell me about your basketball journey?

Wagner: “Growing up my older brother he played so I always watched him. I always enjoyed watching him. That’s how I got started.”

Is there a favorite player who you’ve modeled your game after?

Wagner: “J.J. Redick.”

If you could, what advice would you give to yourself as a freshman?

Wagner: “It’s OK to get criticism from the coach. Failure is how you learn.”

What’s the transition been like from former coach Anthony Hall to new coach Scott Gaffey?

Wagner: “It’s something new. Their personalities are really different. Coach Hall is more old school. And coach Gaffey is more relaxed.”

What are the strengths of this team?

Wagner: “We have four of five starters coming back. So we have experience. But we’re also looking to add in some young talent. We’re looking to win a lot this year.”

Does that returning experience add some pressure in terms of expectations?

Wagner: “A little bit. But we’re also looking to have fun this season.”

Wagner: “Does weight room count.”

You’re good at basketball. What sport are you the worst at?

Wagner: “Probably soccer or baseball.”

What song do you know every word to?

Wagner: “Gratitude by Brandon Lake.”

What was your favorite childhood toy?

Wagner: “Remote control car.”

Do you have a favorite quote or motto that inspires you?

Wagner: “Just remember that I’m working for the Lord. He’s blessed me and it’s part of His plan.”
