program brochure

A panel discussion featuring coaches Todd Mealy, McCaskey football, and Danny Walck, Hempfield basketball, is designed to highlight leadership, mentorship and the impact of sports on the Lancaster community.

The event, sponsored by Next Generation of Lancaster, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Forklift & Palate Restaurant, Spooky Nook Sports, 2913 Spooky Nook Road, Manheim. Tickets are $40.

Barbara Barr, Hall of Fame board member and former WGAL news reporter, will lead the discussion.

Mealy, a historian, educator and former head football coach at Penn Manor and Lancaster Catholic high schools, takes the reins for his first season at McCaskey, this fall. Walck, has been head coach at Hempfield for more than a decade after previously leading the teams at Lancaster Catholic, Reading and Warwick.

The program is designed:

  • To prompt the coaches to discuss their coaching journey, drawing parallels between the lessons they teach their teams and the lessons that can be applied in the professional world and classroom.
  • To demonstrate that you do not have to be just one thing to be successful (i.e. coaching, teaching, writing, and entrepreneurship are not mutually exclusive and people can pursue multiple passions in creating their ideal lives); to show that everything is interconnected and the lessons from one live event can apply to many others.
  • To convey ways to take advantage of professional and personal opportunities, develop a strong work ethic, and use everything as a learning opportunity.

Next Generation of Lancaster bills itself as a movement of ambitious young professionals redefining what it means to grow and thrive in our community. Further information is available from Kenny Myers at KJMyers@kegels.com.
