Manheim Township Girls Basketball Team Focuses on Defense

Scoring may get the headlines, but Manheim Township girls basketball team believes defense will be the key to its success.

Returning junior Julia Weaver (right in photo) says, "The goal is to hold teams to 28 points or under." Weaver says, "We take pride in our defense. We have a lot of strong athletes that are willing to put in the hard work to keep opponents from scoring."

The Blue Streaks boast some multisports athletes including Liv Parmer (left), who is heading to North Carolina on a lacrosse scholarship. She says the team "loves to work hard on the defensive end," taking pride in the less glamorous aspects of the game. 

They spoke to Lancaster County Sports Hall of Fame at the LancasterOnline | LNP winter sports media day at Penn Medicine Park.

Manheim Township can also put the ball in the hoop, finishing second to Lebanon in Section 1 Last year. Head Coach Devonne Pinkard, a former McCaskey and University of Delaware star, believes the Blue Streaks will be competitive again this season.

Pinkard was named to the Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Decade Team for 2010-2019. He instills competitiveness in the team. He's trying to "build a consistent winner" at Township.
