Marge Trout’s 30-year career as an athletic administrator and coach at Millersville University saw change, much of which she promoted, opening many doors for women athletes.

She served as the women’s basketball coach and was the university’s first lacrosse coach, answering a need for women interested in that sport. She taught health and physical education and developed several collegiate academic courses including sports officiating, coaching for sport, camp counseling and novice swimming. She then filled several administrative posts prior to accepting the position of director of women's athletics in 1981, where she later retired in 2001.

Trout served as the first woman president of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, a post she held three times. In addition she was appointed to a variety of positions within the NCAA, including the National Softball Committee and the Division II Management Council.
