Marge Trout Reflects on the Right Call

Remembrance
Marge Trout

Marge Trout won the J. Freeland Chryst award in 2010 and the George W. Kirchner Award in 2018.

I have so many fond memories during my career as an athlete, coach, official and athletic director that I could never select one as my favorite memory. They all have been rewarding and fantastic.  Let me share one experience that always brings a smile to my face.

I was selected to officiate both the first semifinal and final girls basketball championship games for the PIAA and I will never forget the following:

During the semifinal game a pass went behind the backboard and it was my call. I knew depending on the shape of the backboard it was two different calls, not sure I held my whistle. The very next day the same pass and I knew the correct call and blew the whistle with authority, As I ran past the press table I heard, "That is the same damn call you missed yesterday." I could not help myself as I smiled and replied, "I didn't miss it today."
